Today is Monday...Hmm, should i say that today is Monday? And the answer is "no".
I was late for my English class today, so i missed a good presentation of one brother about "How to improve listening skill".
I really like this topic because i think i'm ill at listening, and i want to see his presentation ( he is a member of my group, and he presents for us to show our opinion). My close friend told me that he had a great presentation, that made me feel sorry (sorry or pity? Let's check later). But i'm really lucky (like my nickname "LuckyStar"), my teacher reviewed the content of the slide, she explained many helpful main ideas, examples of this topic, and of course i could understand the main points in the presentation.
I remember some useful things which i have to take notes now. Brother Vien said that when we start to study a language, listening is the first task, the cycle is "Listening - Speaking - Reading - Writing". His example is very clear, just thinking as a child, we have to listen to the sound around us first, imitate that voice and then improve the other skills. I completely agree with him that when we first studied English at school, the teachers always started with writing, and then reading the script, learning by heart and repeating what we had studied...7 year is a long time for that bad habit, and now, when we go to university, listening test becomes nightmare to us. He also gave other reasons, the action of the language (British English, American English, Australian English...), the habit of try to understand the meaning instead of the sound, the different sounds in different words... Finally, he gave some advices to improve the skill such as taking the "language bath", listening to foreign channels with the subtitle first(if we are beginner) and then without subtitle, listening to English songs and films... I think those are good advices...Just one problem here, when i see a film with the subtitle i will look at the action of actors and actresses, and read the subtitle to understand the content of the film ( it's really a bad thing)...I will try my best to listen instead of reading :P.
Ending the first day of a new week, everything is good...Tomorrow will come with a difficult task "Decide the future job we have to do to finish our thesis".
Ah, before i forgot, my teacher gave me a lovely song today named "Breathless". It's a lovely song but i can't hear the voice well, so when i complete the blank, 60 percent is wrong (oh, poor my listening) :(

ReplyDeleteHey, I have a comment for you. "when i see a film with the subtitle i will look at the action of actors and actresses" you should use word "watch" instead of "see" (watch a film, should use " see a film ^^). And another is "we have to listen the sound around us first, imitating that voice and then improve the other skills", remember that the verb "listen" is always along with preposition "to" (listen to the sound...) and "imitating" => "imitate" because the full sentence is "We imitate that voice and then ...". But anyway, I think it's a good writing, I believe you will be better if you try ^^

ReplyDelete@Thu: wow, nice to receive your comment here!:)
ReplyDeleteFirst: "watch a film", i think we should use "see a film" and "watch a game" or "watch television".
Second: "listen to";"imitating", i completely agree with you. Thank you for reading my entry carefully, i will correct these right now.
